EULAC-PerMed Workshop in Montevideo, Uruguay

Dr. Tania Fleitas, LEGACy Scientific Coordinator, participated in the EULAC-PerMed Workshop on December 11 and 12 in Montevideo, Uruguay, organized with the aim of promoting political cooperation and research in personalized medicine between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Dr. Fleitas focused her presentation on the strategy of the LEGACy project. EULAC-PerMed project is also funded by the European Commission through Horizon 2020.
The workshop was set up as a meeting point for the members of the EULAC-PerMed project and representatives of the ICPerMed international consortium with European and Latin American experts, representatives of Ministries of Health, Ministries of Science and Technology, research funding organisations, research centres, industry and patient organisations in order to share experiences and analyse new ways of collaboration between the two regions in this field.
The workshop objectives were to present the EULAC-PerMed project and the first results of the study on personalized medicine in LAC carried out within the framework of the project; analyse and discuss the situation of personalized medicine in LAC, the main barriers, challenges and opportunities; and study the different opportunities for collaboration between LAC and Europe in the field of personalised medicine and how to deal with the political and scientific dialogue foreseen in the framework of the EULAC-PerMed project.
